While prices rose 61% from 2013 to 2019, they fell significantly for 5 years before that. If you look from 2008 until 2019, they rose 34%. That isn't very much. If you consider inflation, the interest paid on the mortgage, and cost of maintaining the value of the building, it's a clear loss.
